Interview: Getting to Know Ruby Frost

Ruby Frost tells Something You Said a bit about herself:

I am a girl with pink hair called Ruby Frost.

Volition is the name of my debut album project! It’s taken two whole years to finish this album, and the process ended up teaching me a lot. I started writing it when I was in a bit of a dark place after a bad relationship situation, so I wrote heaps of bitter songs to get everything out of my system. As I was writing I slowly started realising that creativity is a powerful, spiritual force that can lift you out of anything. And I discovered that I can do things of my own volition, and just move on.

My tour with Evermore will be fun and busy. I went and stayed on their family farm a couple of years ago, to do some songwriting, and they were cool guys who have theories on pretty much everything! It will be nice to see them again.

I’m currently listening to Grimes, Girls and Electric Light Orchestra.

New Zealand is my beautiful motherland, filled with strange volcanoes and black-sand beaches. It can feel very small sometimes, which can be both a good and bad thing. I always appreciate New Zealand more when I come home after traveling for a while, it feels safe and it is nicely rugged.

In the future, I would love to keep relocating to different cities; spend some time in Melbourne, some time in Stockholm and eventually more time in the magical New York. I want to keep writing new songs and discovering new ways of making music, and just enjoy wherever it leads me.

It might surprise people to learn that I’m left handed. I’m very awkward at hugging. I’m a night owl who likes alone time. And I’m very accident prone.
