Emperor the Stag – Speedwell Drive EP

Andy James has a listen to the new EP from Emperor The Stag. Here are his thoughts:

Following the release of single Swan earlier this year, indie four piece Emperor the Stag from Eastbourne on England’s South Coast have been spreading their wings and picking up a sizeable following in the UK.

Released on their own Stop Thinking Records label, Speedwell Drive builds on the sound of earlier releases, like last year’s Deceitful Doe EP, and paves the way for a much-anticipated long player due sometime in 2013.

When they hit their stride – like on Red Admiral’s Daughter and closing track White Car Never Comes – they sound like the love child of Death Cab for Cutie and Doves. You can hear for yourself by checking out a mash-up of the EP, above.
