Gung Ho Is In The Place You’d Rather Be
You may have heard Brisbanites Gung Ho rolling around your ears before. Their sun-drenched lo-fi has seen singles get well deserved praise and plays from all round. Debut EP Anywhere Else, is dreamy yet punchy, being quipped as an Australian reinterpretation of a style made famous by indie greats Beach House and Real Estate, and the like. Despite this, the two-piece step out on their own, there’s a sorrow lurking under their easy listening melodies and danceable beats, especially in the howled chorus of Strangers. Highlights of their new EP would have to be Twin Rays and Strangers, that subtle pensive melancholy adding a nice depth to their dreaminess.
