Getting to Know Kirsty Thatcher
The Original Dolly Model Search 2013 is currently touring Australia. In previous years it has discovered the likes of Miranda Kerr, Jessica Hart and Abbie Cornish. Not a bad roll-call, right? Well, the latest name to be added to that impressive list of names is Kirsty Thatcher, who was crowned Dolly Ambassador for 2012. We had a chat with her about modelling, music and got her advice for anyone entering the competition this year:
Modelling is so fun! I feel so lucky to have had the chance to work with the Dolly team and be part of real photo shoots. It’s so exciting to open the mag and see how the shoots have turned out each month.
Aside from modelling, I’m pretty normal. I go to school and do everything a regular girl my age does.
Winning the Original Dolly Model Search 2012 was unbelievable. When I entered I had no idea I would even get through to be a State Finalist, so winning was a big shock. It’s been an amazing experience and has led to so many cool opportunities.
My advice to anyone entering would be to just be yourself. You want the judges to get to know the real you. Try not to be too nervous by remembering that everyone is in the same situation, but most of all enjoy yourself!
I’m currently listening to Rihanna. My friends and I are already planning to go to her concert when she comes to Australia this year!
It might surprise people to learn that I’m currently teaching myself how to play the guitar. It’s a lot harder than it looks but I’ve finally mastered a few chords. At the moment I’m trying to learn Pumped Up Kicks, the Owl Eyes version.
I spend too much time looking at clothes online. I love putting together cool outfits.
In the future I’d love to continue modelling and hopefully travel overseas. I’m also a part of the Queensland Theatre Company Youth Ensemble and the shows I’ve put on with them have given me a taste of what a career in acting would be like. It would be amazing to be able to call acting or modelling my job because they’re both things I’m passionate about.
