Coming soon: The Inbetweeners 2

Turning sitcoms into full length movies can be a precarious business. For every ace adaptation like Partridge’s Alpha Papa or The South Park Movie, there’s a disappointment like Guest House Paradiso – a poor effort from the usually brilliant Bottom. So it was with some trepidation that audiences greeted The Inbetweeners Movie a couple of years ago. Three series of the English comedy were loved by critics and audiences alike, but its popularity begged the question, would it translate to the big screen? The answer, pleasingly, was a firm YES, as it broke box office records for a British comedy.

Fans of the TV show found plenty of familiar laughs in unfamiliar territory in their debut cinematic instalment, as the foursome headed to to Malia, Crete, where they got in their usual scrapes, got drunk, got naked and got lucky with grannies (well, Jay did anyway). Now the boys are set to return in a sequel to their raunchy hit comedy.

Just as horny, just as crude and just as hopeless, the lads are back by popular demand for another outrageous adventure and, as the above trailer shows, this time they’re heading to….  AUSTRALIA! Yup, The East Coast won’t know what’s hit it as Will, Neil and Simon join Jay on his gap year in “the sex capital of the world” to do some backpacking in The Inbetweeners 2. Anyone who has ever been backpacking Down Under will laugh and cringe as they recognise themselves in our four protagonists’ attempts to get fresh with hot international chicks while bunking down in grubby hostel dorms.

With the film’s stars, Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison moving on to work on other stuff, like the brilliant Friday Night Dinner, there is every chance that this will be The Inbetweeners‘ final outing, so make sure you head along to the cinema to see what becomes of our (loveably pathetic) heroes.

The Inbetweeners 2 is released in the UK on the 6th August 2014.
