Summertime in Sydney is pretty much unbeatable, right? Well, it just got even more unbeatable (wait, is it possible to be “more unbeatable?” Hmmm, dunno). Anyway, semantics aside, your summer evenings are now covered because St.George OpenAir Cinema just unveiled its 2015 program today, the biggest ever to date, and it’s shit hot. It has an outstanding line-up of 42 films, including seven Premiere and 13 Preview screenings, along with a selection of this summer’s major releases from multi-award winning directors. Boom!

From January 7th until February 21st, 2015, this annual iconic summer event returns to the Mrs Macquaries Point. If there are better views from an outdoor cinema then we’ve yet to experience them.

The 2015 season commences with a big bang on January 7 as it rolls out the Australian Premiere of THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING. Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones deliver outstanding performances in this fascinating story of love, resilience and one of the planet’s greatest living minds, Professor Stephen Hawking.

Award-winning indie director Paul Thomas Anderson’s crime comedy-drama INHERENT VICE gets its Australian Premierethere and on Australia Day, audiences are invited to a 21st birthday as Priscilla turns 21 (shit, really?) in 2015 and THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT will be shown in her honour. Dressing up is very much encouraged.

The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart delivers an outstanding directorial debut with his hard hitting drama ROSEWATER (Australian Premiere), the true story of Newsweek journalist Maziar Bahari (Gael Garcia Bernal) who was arrested by authorities in Iran on charges of spying.

MONDAY 12 JANUARY 2015 – WILD (PREVIEW SCREENING) Reese Witherspoon takes to the screen with an amazing performance in the major film release WILD, a powerful story of self-healing, based on the best-selling memoir by Cheryl Strayed in a screenplay by Nick Hornby.

TUESDAY 13 JANUARY – UNBROKEN (PREVIEW SCREENING) Legendary directors Joel and Ethan Coen have teamed up with director Angelina Jolie to tell UNBROKEN, the incredible true and moving story of Olympic track star Louis Zamperini’s relentless fight for survival in WWII.

WEDNESDAY 21 JANUARY – FOXCATCHER (PREVIEW SCREENING) Amazing performances drive FOXCATCHER, a riveting true story of eccentric chemical heir John du Pont (Steve Carell), and his bizarre relationship with Olympic wrestling gold medallists Mark (Channing Tatum) and David Schultz (Mark Ruffalo).

MONDAY 2 FEBRUARY – SELMA (PREVIEW SCREENING) Audiences will be moved by the special preview of the arousing and superbly made drama SELMA, which focuses on the historical US Civil Rights movement in the 60s and Martin Luther King Jr.’s inspiring leadership that changed America.

TUESDAY 3 FEBRUARY – KINGSMAN: SECRET SERVICE (PREVIEW SCREENING) British action film KINGSMAN: SECRET SERVICE directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kiss-Ass). Starring Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Strong, Taron Egerton and Michael Caine – the film depicts a veteran secret agent who leads a young protégé into the world of espionage.

FRIDAY 6 FEBRUARY- SAMBA (AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE) The team behind the hilarious French hit The Intouchables return with SAMBA, another adorable story starring Omar Sy and the superb Charlotte Gainsbourg. The film navigates the complex world of immigration with humour, love and humanity.

SATURDAY 7 FEBRUARY- ’71 (PREVIEW SCREENING) For an extraordinary edge-of-your-seat thriller watch the special screening of ’71, the story of a British soldier trying to survive in a Northern Ireland battleground.

TUESDAY 10 FEBRUARY – THE IMITATION GAME Another hot Oscar® contender is THE IMITATION GAME starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Kiera Knightley. Based on the amazing true story of mathematician Alan Turing, the film features a team of like-minded geniuses determined to crack the famed Nazi cipher code, Enigma, during World War 2.

FRIDAY 20 FEBURARY – TOP FIVE (PREVIEW SCREENING) For those looking for a laugh, don’t miss TOP FIVE the upcoming American comedy film directed and written by legendry comedian Chris Rock. The film stars Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson, Rachel Feinstein and Hayley Marie Norman.
