Kate Miller-Heidke shares her air

Australian songstress Kate Miller-Heidke is back with a brand spanking new recording of Share Your Air, which sees singer/songwriter Andy Burrows join in on vocal duties.

The single was recorded exclusively for the UK version of her album O Vertigo! Both will be released on Cooking Vinyl in April. Of the collaboration, Burrows says: “I went to see Kate sing in a small club in New York City two summers ago, it was honestly one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to.” So they got together to create this version of Share Your Air. Check out the video, above. “It’s a total honour to sing on this beautiful song with her,” he says.

If you aren’t familiar with Kate Miller-Heidke, firstly, where have you been? And secondly, here is a bit of a history lesson. She’s a singer-songwriter who floats between the worlds of classical music and contemporary pop. Her new record, O Vertigo! was entirely fan-funded, with Kate smashing the records for quickest and most successful crowdfunding campaign by an Australian artist. She achieved her goal in only three days, and the campaign went on to reach over 215% of its original target. Not too shabby.

Upon its Australian release, the record (her fourth) debuted at No.4 on the Australian charts and she was nominated for an ARIA. Trained as a classical singer at the Queensland Conservatorium, Kate performed last summer at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in John Adams’ The Death of Klinghoffer. She has performed several roles for the English National Opera, and in Jerry Springer The Opera at the Sydney Opera House. The Rabbits, a new piece she wrote the music for and performed in, just finished its season at the Perth Festival.
