Getting to Know Ainslie Wills

Melbourne-based Ainslie Wills launches her new record, Oh The Gold, later this month with gigs in Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am a Melodist – a composer of melodies which might seem like I’m trying to be fancy but I’m just wanting to avoid saying Singer/Songwriter. I love to make music, it feels like my first true language, and I’m highly addicted to Nutella, no joke.

Oh The Gold describes the feeling you get when you make a deep connection with someone or something – I was lucky to experience this over the course of recording the EP by the same name. I get to experience this two-fold with the EP as there are a bunch of lovely people out there who have taken the time to write and tell me how they themselves connecting with the tunes.

My upcoming East Coast tour will feature a killer five-piece band and a carefully planned out set. I’m currently trying to figure out what to wear.

I spend too much time watching Damages and thinking about things that don’t matter in the scheme of the world, I’ve written many songs about this, one of them is called ‘Never Know What To Say’ and is on previously mentioned EP.

Melbourne is my home. I live on the northside, Coburg to be exact, and my hot food tips of this area are Al Alamy + Half Moon Kebabs.

It might surprise people to learn that I recently got engaged.

In 2016, I hope to release some more music and finally kick my Nutella habit.

Ainslie will be launching Oh The Gold on Friday 23 October at Howler in Melbourne, Thursday 29 October at Newtown Social Club in Sydney and Saturday 31 October at Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane.
