Oakley In Residence hits Sydney

Wednesday November 4th was the official opening of Sydney’s edition of the Oakley In Residence. Starting in LA, then moving onto London and finishing in Sydney, the theme of the night was Sydney’s rich cultural connection to professional skateboarding, as well as the recent launch of Oakley’s Latch. The exhibition will be open to the public until November 29th at 74 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills so check it out.

Latch is a design collaboration featuring skate legends Eric Koston, Curren Caples, Sean Malto and photographer Atiba Jefferson. Latch – as a smaller extension of the One Obsession promotion, is aimed at inspiring the creative. These sunglasses for skaters, by skaters, were designed based on influences and experiences that got these skateboarders to where they are today.

All but Koston came along on the night to promote the event as well pro skateboarders Kevin Long and Jerry Hsu. Responsible for the photographs in the exhibition on the night were Mike O’Meally, Andrew Peters and Atiba Jefferson.

The gallery was ridiculous, it was so refreshing to see how locations throughout Sydney over time turned into iconic spots that touring Skaters couldn’t miss if their life depended on it. Spanning from the mid 80s with Gonzo to 2015 with Torey Pudwill on his latest trip with Sheckler Sessions. The gallery was made to encompasses all these iconic spaces throughout Sydney into the one experience; a ‘shit, that’s cool’ sort of night.

Something You Said photographer Phil Erbacher was lucky enough to snag his external flash a permanent residency up stairs getting some seriously ambient portrait shots from some of the biggest names in professional skateboarding.

With rooms littered with fun-boxes, rails and quarters for people to skate at their own discretion and free beers and burgers, you couldn’t help but feel you were at the right place.

Have a look at the collection in Oakley O-Stores and online. They’ll set you back $159.95 RRP.
