Following a triumphant opening-night performance by Courtney Barnett, we were excited to return to Twilight at Taronga this Saturday evening for a performance by the legendary Tex Perkins.

Far From Folsom featuring Tex Perkins and the Tennessee Four with Rachael Tidd was one of many sold-out events in this year’s programme and was highly anticipated. Yet, after a great set from Vic Simms, the Sydney weather had other ideas.

Our intrepid photographer, Damon Collum, was at the iconic Sydney zoo, ready to shoot the show, when the storms hit and threw a spanner in the works, or rather, threw massive bolts of lightning at the venue.

“Lighting has temporarily stopped the Twilight gig, people are being evacuated to covered areas… Fingers crossed for Tex,” he messaged us.

The crossed fingers didn’t work though. “Cancelled… hail and lightning now.”

And then… “Hiding in a toilet block, lightning cracking everywhere… at least its an adventure!”

So, when it was safe to do so, a sad, wet and dishevelled crowd eventually headed home, cursing Sydney’s tempestuous weather.

Twilight at Taronga put out the following statement. “Due to severe weather conditions, Tex Perkins’ Far From Folsom Prison Tribute was cancelled, however we are pleased to announce a rescheduled performance, with special guest Vic Simms on Sunday 28 February 2016. All existing tickets (for entry to the event and hampers) will be honoured – simply bring your current tickets and hamper voucher to the rescheduled show. Here are some pictures of a very wet crowd and of Vic Simms. See the full set on Facebook.
