Red Bull Sound Select returns next week!

Just recently, Red Bull Sound Select presented the surprise reunion of Sydney’s Red Riders at Red Rattler in Marrickville. They were supported by Brightness, Shearin & Body Type DJs. It was a raucous night!

Red Bull Sound Select is a live music artist development program designed to support and uncover local artists through a series of monthly live shows, curated by some of the industry’s best for music fans. Check out a few photos from the night and find out about an upcoming event below…

The good news is that, at the end of this month, Red Bull Sound Select returns with a lineup programmed by Laneway Festival’s Travis Banko. Heading to Parramatta for the first time at the Albion Hotel on April 28th, South West Sydney MC B-Wise, New Zealand-via-Zimbabwe’s rising export TAPZ and one-to-watch MANU CROOK$ will come together to celebrate the rise of afro hip-hop in the heart of Sydney’s Greater West.

In turns with FBi Radio’s Music Director Amelia Jenner and I OH YOU’s Ponniah, Banko is one of Red Bull Sound Select’s key curators, supporting and nurturing live music discovery by pairing local established artists with breaking talent across the year’s designated events.

The April lineup looks to Sydney’s West for artists on the breaking point of global hip-hop acclaim. Headliner B-Wise has come a long way since his debut in 2015. The Nigerian-Australian MC was the opening act for Red Bull Sound Select’s second ever Australian instalment last May with Tuka and Sampa the Great. Since then, he’s reached reached new heights releasing tracks “40 Days” and “Lately”, signed to renowned label Elefant Traks, featured on Urthboy’s latest album, and supported the likes of Vince Staples, Schoolboy Q and Freddie Gibbs.

TAPZ is one of New Zealand-via-Zimbabwe’s brightest exports. Since featuring on Hermitude’s colossal crossover hit “The Buzz”, TAPZ has amassed millions of plays for solo singles “Killa” and “Run Don’t Run”. Signed collectively to Winterman & Goldstein, Kanye West’s management label G.O.O.D Management and Control Music Group (Phoenix, Hudson Mohawke) – there’s no stopping his bright future.

Rounding out April’s lineup is Ghana raised, Sydney-based emcee MANU CROOK$, whose singles “Everyday” and “Blowin Up” have had support from the likes of The Fader and Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. Alongside recent single “Assumptions” and a forthcoming debut EP, MANU CROOK$ has his sights set on hip-hop’s international scene.
