Getting to Know Johnny Third

Johnny Third is a lynchpin of the Melbourne club scene, and has accumulated millions of plays across Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube. We asked him to tell us about himself:

I am… Johnny Third, your friendly neighbourhood spider…. I mean producer, songwriter, musician, performer and DJ from Melbourne, Australia. I’m currently sitting in my studio listening to Blackbear whilst writing this and recovering from a month on road touring Australia and New Zealand.

‘Only I Could’ is… a combination of Usher, Justin Timberlake, Drake, and filthy sound design and rhythmic basses at the groovy tempo of 100bpm. My goal in creating this piece was to push the boundaries of what’s acceptable in both Pop/RnB and Modern Trap/Future Bass Music. ‘Only I Could’ is purely a culmination of all my musical influences with no restrictions.

Home is… being on the road. I love visiting new cities, meeting new people and performing, so naturally touring makes me feel at peace. I’m also someone who never stops; ever. So the non-stop, fast paced energy of touring and the energy it takes works perfectly for me.

I spend too much time… If you asked my girlfriend, she would say I spend too much time on music, to me I don’t think there is such thing as too much time. But I do struggle with not having enough time in the day for other things… I even forget to eat sometimes.

I never… go to bed with dirty feet (I have to wash them before I sleep). SUPER weird, I know!

It might surprise people to learn that… under extremely high pressure, diamonds can be made from peanut butter. It’s true! Also that I spent many years touring in metal and rock bands, very, very different to the music that I am currently producing. Bands like Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy still influence my compositions.

In the future… I will win a grammy. Huge goal, I know, but if your goals don’t scare the shit out of you, they aren’t big enough. By then I imagine we’ll all be cruising around in driverless cars and have undergone a whole technological revolution which would allow me to produce and compose from the car.

Keep up to date with Johnny Third on Facebook.
