A Quest For Fantastic Denim Goods
The past week in Sydney has had me soaked to the bone day-after-day. I have found myself wearing the same pair of jeans everyday as some sort of protection from the side-wards downpours. This self-induced daily denim dose got me thinking about jeans. Help! I have denim on the brain!
Every winter I resort to several cuts of denim heaven to live in and for the duration of the milder months. I generally disagree with people that bore me with the line “Oh, I don’t/can’t wear jeans.” You fool, everyone can wear jeans! They are the most popular and longstanding clothing item in the history of clothing!
For all those neysayers, or those that flock to General Pants/Glue out of familiarity for their denim fix, I would like to broaden your options. Although these places stock some pretty alright brands, you need to be more adventurous if you are going to look bangin’ in your chosen jean wear.
FAT
Chatswood Chase, 345 Victoria Ave, Chatswood
New kid on the block, F.A.T. is hidden in the mumsey area of the incredibly polished, but quiet and pleasant, Chatswood Chase. The shop has a bevvy of brands that I had been previously unacquainted with, such as OTTO (with a bunch of cool boyfriend styles for the ladies), as well as Res (with nice washes and prints). There are also familiar labels for both sexes, including Cheap Mondays, Dr. Denim and my new favourite on the denim scene, Rollas. If you like the sound of these offerings, there is also the flagship F.A.T. store in Melbourne that can fulfill jean dreams for those down south.
Service
84 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst
This is probably my favourite store in Sydney to buy clothes (big call). Melbourne bro’s that are responsible for the denimwear brand Neuw set up shop on Oxford Street and all my denim prayers were answered. Not only am I a fan of the brand (Marilyn’s are my cut of choice- they’re high and mighty), Service stocks complimentary goods to make you fix up, look sharp, including Lonely Hearts lingerie to sport underneath your denim garb, as well as Holly Ryan jewelry, R. M. Williams boots, Illesteva sunnies and a range of beaut menswear that I would happily wear myself.
Denim Co. by General Pants
Queen Victoria Building, 455 George St, Sydney
I know, I know, I told you to steer away from this shop, but this one store is different from the others! I promise! What makes it extra special in catering to my jean needs is the informed staff who obviously live in the fabric. They also offer free alterations, which is a plus, because nothing looks worse than a pair of awesome jeans that are too long on the wearer. Old faithfuls ksubi, Nudie and Levis are there, and like a kid in a candyshop, I feel like saying “I’ll have this one, and this one and one of those too!” at the extensive display of denim that surrounds the walls of the small shop.
