Somethingyousaid.com’s remit is pretty simple. We don’t give a solitary fuck about celebrity, we just wanna throw awesomeness at your eyes on a daily basis. Simple. Well, we hopefully stuck to that in 2013, bringing you beautiful writing, hot new talent, interesting culture, banging tunes, spot-on opinion, sexy people and the occasional bit of politics too. We threw it at you, and plenty of it hit the spot. Here are the dozen most read stories which were published on the site in 2013.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 9.10.48 pm1. How to buy a drink and not be an idiot
There are clearly a lot of very pissed off hospitality workers out there because this one went mega viral, mega quickly. It’s basically a simple list – by Something You Said writer Jess Matthews – of do’s and don’ts when you approach the bar. At present, it has about 8,000 Facebook Likes/Shares and is often, even months after it was published, still the most read story on the site each day. Read it here.

Despite our best efforts, we weren’t able to stop that fucktard Tony Abbott winning. Still, we did our best with a summing up of why he is bad for Australia. The reasons are plentiful. Before that, we ran a story about how our good friend Isabella from Sydney band The Preatures had her anti-Abbott T-shirt censored. Read our reasons why Abbott is bad for Australia here.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 9.14.27 pm3. How to go to a festival and not be a fuckwit
Jess Matthews is back with more sage advice. This time telling you how to avoid fuckwittery at a music festival. As we all know, it is much-needed advice. Things like: “Dress BEFORE you start skulling vodka at your pre-drinks party. And make sure that you are appropriately covered, nobody wants to see your nipples, ass cheeks or other miscellaneous bits of skin.” Check out the full – very funny – list here and take notes for your next festival.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 9.37.36 pm4. Getting to know Sara Malakul Lane
Our editor Bobby interviewed actress Sara Malakul Lane about modelling, travelling and acting. “Acting is the most paradoxical of crafts – you have to learn it, practice obsessively and then throw it all away. It’s like walking on a tightrope.” Sara has since written a further article for the site from behind the scenes of her upcoming movie, Jailbait. You can read the interview here.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 9.15.48 pm5. Catching Up with Danielle Sharp
Our previous interview with British model Danielle Sharp was one of the first ever stories on the site. It in, our editor Bobby discovered an interesting juxtaposition between Danielle’s glamour work and her passion for rummaging around in charity shops. Bobby caught up with Danielle as part of Something You Said’s first birthday celebrations and the story was as popular as the first time they spoke. Read our chat with this up-n-coming model here.

Screen Shot 2013-11-30 at 9.46.50 am6. Yo-Landi Visser does it again
The Die Antwoord clip is a mainstay in our weekly top ten most viewed clips. This is likely for or two reasons. 1. It’s a fucked-up video and a fucked up song, and 2. our writer Carol’s description of Yolandi Visser “pissing, stroking her pussy, and getting done from behind,” meant that Google has consistently directed some proper perves to our site. See the video here.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 9.24.15 pm7. Freddie Gibbs is Walter White
Harriet Cheney held her breath amongst the pot smoke of rapper Freddie Gibbs’ dressing room to ask him some questions. In the interview, he dropped the bombshell that he would like to work with Drake. Something of an exclusive for us there. After which, the interwebs went mental with people giving their opinion on the matter. As for us, well, we didn’t really care, and were more interested in hearing him talk about Breaking Bad. Read the interview here.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 9.27.52 pm8. Alcohol and the wonderful decline
Here is the second alcohol-related story that finds itself nestled comfortably within the top ten. You guys sure like the booze, huh? Here, Elfy Scott questions her love/hate relationship with drink. It opens thusly: “I wake to debilitating nausea and the sense that I’m not entirely sure which one of my orifices is about to erupt.” You’re certainly not alone in that feeling, Elfy. We’ve all been there on too many occasions. Read her hilarious article in full here.

No-one can deny that the iPad has transformed how we interact with our screens and pushed forward the tablet market. So, our very own music producer/DJ, 25ThC, considered the best way to make music using an iPad, and interviewed the people in the know. The result was a comprehensive guide to creating tunes using your tablet. Read all about it here.

10. Exclusively Britany Nola Video
Our Editor, Bobby, and longtime Something You Said contributor, Britany Nola, hung out for a couple of days in the heart of Manhattan’s summer, during which time they recorded a video interview about Nola’s modelling, her acting, her desire to have a career behind the camera and about who she would stalk were she invisible. Plus, you can hear her pretty impressive impression of a dog by checking out their exclusive interview here.

11.The Rules of playing music in publicScreen Shot 2013-11-24 at 9.31.31 pm
Ten simple instructions for anyone who intends to play music in front of other people. Such as this “If you absolutely must play a shredding guitar solo, do not wear the facial contortions of a man being aggressively fellated. Yes, even you Clapton.” This one sparked laughs and grumpy comments (mainly from shorts-wearing drummers). Read the full story here.

Screen Shot 2013-11-24 at 9.32.39 pm12.Outdoor Topless Co-Ed Pulp Fiction
Did you know that, in New York City, the law allows public toplessness by both men and women? This is good news for the Outdoor Co-Ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society, who meet up to do their al fresco reading sans tops. It’s an interesting story so we thought we’d chat to them about it. Plus, boobs. Read it here.
