FBi Radio’s Brush With Fame
If you’re looking to purchase fame at a reasonable price and you’re regretting that impulse purchase of celebrity nail clippings you brought that one time, we’ve got the perfect solution: Sydney’s not-for-profit radio station, FBi, is once again launching its online auction ‘brush with fame’.
Up for bidding are one-of-a-kind hand drawn masterpieces created by musicians who visited FBi radio this year. FBi is a community-run radio station dedicated to playing 50% Aussie music, half of this being Sydney-based, which means that they not only sound great but are wonderful in supporting local independent artists on a grassroots level.
This year’s auction follows the success of last year’s ‘brush with fame’ and will feature artists including Asgeir, Washington (artwork, left) Banks, Darkside, Ears, Ice Age, Pheonix, Holy Fuck (artwork, above), Warpaint and Mount Kimbie (artwork, below) with many more artists listed below. The auction goes live on eBay November 25th, 9pm.
Reasons for bidding in the auction are plenty. Firstly, artworks are strangely empathetic listeners so you can purchase an item that doubles as not only as an artpiece but as a friend. You can tell others that you’ve ‘hung out’ (pun intended) with a musician, well, actually their likeness, and spent time longingly staring at them beside a fireplace or mounted to your wall. I’ll admit, some of us need to buy our company.
With Bids starting at $50, each piece comes with an FBi radio certificate of Authenticity so you can legitimise your relationship if anyone asks, and play that mix tape of love songs you recorded when you were in your teens. Totally justified and not at all creepy. Really.
In all seriousness, proceeds of the auction will help further shape and develop Sydney’s vibrant and culturally diverse artistic community through grassroots support of local music, art and culture. This is a wonderful cause to support because all independent artists need to start somewhere and platforms such as FBi radio are wonderful facilitators of self-expression and community.
The auction finishes on 2nd of December with all works shipped in time for Christmas so you have something to talk about when the relatives come over Christmas Day. No more awkward conversations about sweater vests – there is only so much one can take.
If you’re feeling generous, you can buy the artwork as a gift for that someone special because it is that time of year for festive cheer and an artwork would make a great companion for a Christmas tree.
So if you want to mount things on your wall and stare longingly at it for hours or boast that you’ve had a ‘Brush with Fame’, place a bid in this auction and win yourself an artwork.
