Eves Karydas: My five favourite London spaces
Australian Eves Karydas is heading to The Great Escape Festival in Brighton in May and is then returning to Australia for Splendour, before unleashing her album later this year (we hear rumours she’s going to be dropping a new single soon too). She’s based over in London these days, so we asked her to put together a list of her five favourite venues, creative spaces and record stores in London. Here they are:
Oval Space
It’s a big warehouse space in Bethnal Green where they have live artists play and parties there and local artists’ markets. It’s a big creative / collaborative space and it’s used for so many different things. I’ve been there for so many different events and when you hang there it really feels like London.
Bussey Building
The Bussey Building is close to where I live and therefore closer to my heart. It’s just in Peckham. They have nights there with DJs, parties, bars – a lot of pop up things happen there. And I love Peckham. I just moved here and it still feels kind of underground. It still has this feeling about it of being undiscovered.
Pickle Factory
Another great venue that’s a mixed arts and events space.
Rye Wax
Rye Wax is right near the Bussey Building and it’s a record store, a taco pop up and a venue for DJs and dancing. The big warehouse spaces have all these local companies set up that feels very community based and collaborative. It’s super vibey.
Rough Trade East
Kind of a staple really. It’s just off of Brick Lane and I’ve seen a bunch of artists play in store there. It has a café attached and it’s just a great music place to visit in London.
