Getting to know Abby Bella May
Sydney-based electro-pop artist Abby Bella May has just dropped her second single. We asked her to tell us about herself:
I am… Abby Bella May. Bella May is not my real last name, However, this is the name I go by to everyone. Only those real close to me or who have had a cheeky look at my license to see my awful mug shot know my real name. I changed my name when I was about 14 to Abby Bella May, it had a ring to it, rolls off the tongue much better than my actual last name and I don’t have to spell it out for people. Win, win and win. So that’s what I’ve stuck with ever since.
Care is… a song about loving the one you love no matter what. I wrote Care when I had a lot on my mind regarding my relationship, I was frustrated that no matter how much I was hurt or let down by them, I still couldn’t help but love them with everything I had. So, because it frustrated me so much, I wrote about it and what came out happened to be Care.
Home is… supposed to be where you feel comfortable and somewhere you can be yourself, completely, right? So, home to me is a mix of things. Watching movies and eating most of the popcorn with my man, that is home. Spending time with my friends, that is home. Rehearsing with my band, that is home. My families company, that is home. And singing my songs live to a crowd, that makes me feel at home.
I spend too much time… Overthinking. I overthink quite a bit. Care actually touches on this a lot towards the end “always thinking far ahead, if not I think back, round in circles goes my head, my thoughts they attack”. I’m pretty much saying, if I’m not thinking of the future possibilities or things that could go wrong, I’m thinking about what could have been, what I could have done differently. Although, I’ve gotta say I’ve improved on this bad habit of mine.
I’ve never… not owned an animal, I have always had either a kitty cat or a dogo in my life. At the moment I have 3 cats and 2 dogs. I love cats most though.
It might surprise people to know that… I can speak to cats, because I was a cat in my past life.
