Interview: Getting to know sad face
Enigmatic artist sad face has recently released their third album, sf. We asked them to tell us about themselves:
I am… sad face.
Home is… where my dad stopped coming.
I spend too much time… trying not to be sad, and not enough time accepting my permanent state of misery so I can get on with making more music.
‘sf’ is… my third album. I started making music 3 years ago and I’ve managed to release an album every year. I guess it’s now become a goal of mine. I didn’t really set out to ever make a specific style, so it’s been a journey of experimenting and diving deeper into the broad, down-tempo/electronica world to discover my own sound and aesthetic. ‘sf’ isn’t the end of the journey, just a gas station along the way. Most of the songs on this record were made during the pandemic last year where there was nothing else to do but make music and cry; sometimes at the same time. Sometimes a feeling will inspire a song, or a song will inspire a feeling. in any case, I feel dissociated when I listen to the finished product, like I had nothing to do with the songs and instead was just a vessel for some impersonal cosmic force
In the future… I hope my dad returns home with those cigarettes
