If you put a bunch of musicians in a room together for the first time, you’d be forgiven for thinking it might take them a while to find their groove. Well, in this instance you’d be wrong, as six talented individuals have come together to write and record a soulful single in just 48 hours.

From Big AC Records and renowned music photographer Dean Chalkley comes a collective called Phono 48, comprised of neo-soul singer Laville, Kitty and Lewis Durham (from Kitty, Daisy and Lewis), Amané Suganami (Maisha), Solomon Douglas and Nick Corbin.

Despite all of the aforementioned artists entering the studio with no preconceived ideas of what they would create, they put together a beautifully crafted, contemporary-sounding song which weaves soul, funk and jazz between Laville’s positive lyrics and smooth, laid-back vocal. It’s an absolute beaut of a track!

So Pure makes up part of the multi-media New Perspectives project devised by Chalkey, who captured the magic of two days in the studio in a collection of documentary-style images.

And that’s not all. Chalkley and art director Ciaran O’Shea also put together a short experimental film with different abstract elements reflecting the brilliant creative journey that the creatives went on. The film was inspired by Jean Luc Godard’s Sympathy For The Devil, in which the director shot the Rolling Stones as they made their famous record.

But that’s not all. The New Perspectives project also includes a one-off journal written by music journalist Andy Thomas.

The exciting project will launch on Thursday 17th February at The Museum of Youth Culture in Central London, with a photography exhibition and film screening.
