Interview: Getting to know Sophian

Boorloo/Perth-based indie rock band Sophian have just released their new single, Georgie. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… Sophian, a four-piece band bringing you some indie goodness from the west coast of OZ.

Georgia is… our latest single which explores the relationship between a sailor and a mermaid he’s fallen in love with. It’s also a metaphor for what relationships in real life can be like. Sometimes you have to overcome very difficult boundaries to get to the final destination of happiness. From a musical perspective we explored new sounds we haven’t before from including synths/organs to writing a part where the whole crowd can sing along with us. It’s meant to be a feel-good song that you can blast no matter where you are just feel happy and sing along with.

Home is… here, there, and everywhere. Hard to pick one place as we have all lived in other parts of the world, from the US, Maldives to Switzerland and now Perth in Western Australia. Currently, Perth is home for us!

We spend too much time…  listening to our front man yap. He talks a lot. Haha it is true, but we absolutely love him. His happiness and energy is infectious.

We’ve never… toured outside of the state we live in yet!

It might surprise people to learn that… hopefully touring in other states isn’t very far away.
