44th Sunset call themselves wankers

When a band’s press-release makes announcements telling us that they’re, “sometimes a bunch of wankers – the lead singer looks like he’s having a seizure every time he sings,” we’re strangely attracted to them. Better, anyway, than the gazillion press-releases busting out the same ol’ cliches.

So, intrigued by this strange self-deprecation, we investigated 44th Sunset to discover a Perth band who recently hit the age where they can walk into a bar and legally order a drink. We discovered a band whose drummer wears too many singlets. We discovered a band that won the national My School Act competition last year and that opened the 2012 Big Day Out in Perth. Basically, we discovered a band that we thought you might dig.

The Boa Constrictor Hat EP, their first official record, is a mix of upbeat pop and dramatic ballads, a taste of which you can hear in the above clip. If you like what goes in your ears, then you can catch them on their tour in support of Jinja Safari, if you happen to be in Aus this month.
