Review: MIA comes roaring back

MIA comes roaring back with her new audio-visual project ‘Broader than a Border.’ The first instalment released today is labeled Scroll 01. The video begins with her new song Swords and it ends with Matangi’s Warriors. MIA has taken a page from /\/\ /\ Y /\ and actually created a beat with swords. Needless to say, it is siiiiiiick.

Over top she chants Hands up if you hear a knock on the door/ hands up if you hear a knock on the door. Is there anything more relevant right now to so many people in this world no matter the border? She proves once again her expertise in pairing a banging dance beat with defiant lyrics directed towards those who abuse power. It’s what MIA has been telling us from the start of her career. From Sri Lanka to Ferguson – this is world town. Hands up if you hear a knock on the door.

You can see the video over at Stereogum. “Matahdatah Scroll 01 ‘Broader Than A Border‘” is available for purchase at iTunes. I highly recommend downloading the track because the production is amazing (slap some headphones on).
