Music: BCBG interview themselves!

Ahead of their show tonight with Glöss at Freda’s in Sydney, Mariette and Sam of Paris-based BCBG interview each other:

Hello Sam, how are you feeling today after these days touring and having cocktails with the crazy people of North Queensland? Don’t you feel exhausted? What do you think of Australian people and of Australia?
Amazing crazy people all the time. So kind and friendly here.
Indeed, I tried for the first time Espresso Martini that was ok but I think I would still stay on wine since Australia is also a wine land. I am always amazed by these old wild landscapes, mangroves and half cut animals. Oliver’s was our driving stop spot for food, cause we’re healthy bitches. Our fav driving song is Swim Good from Frank Ocean, Jack (from Glöss) knows all the lyrics and sing them along. Angie always knows where the good food spots are and Micha is the driving angel. So we’re not so tired actually, and looking forward the next shows.

Mariette, what are your hates and likes about Paris?
I come from the french countryside band I’ll always be a girl from the country no matter what, but Paris is my home cause I spent there so much time and have all my friends.
I love it when I go to Pigalle (red light district) getting drunk going to the nastiest bars, fantasizing about the past of this neighbourhood (it was the area of theaters, cabarets, naughty singers and drunk painters) while stumbling in the streets trying to find the keys in my bag.
I hate it when people are rude in Paris for no reasons.
I like it when I go, have beers and wine on the canal and smoke cigarettes and talk about life with my friends. I hate it whenever I have to deal with bureaucracy there, it’s so dumb and complicated in a stupid way. I like it when the sun rises in the morning and I make coffee under this awesome northern light. I hate it when I have to talk to patronizing idiots, but then I like it cause I can complain about these patronizing idiots with a friend, on a coffee terrace with sunglasses, coffee and cigarettes.

Sam, what are the venues you like in Paris?
The best is Poney Club run by this awesome collective, and where you could find the best underground parties, at Pipi Caca and recently at Le Peripate, but all these venues shut down cause they were squats. The collective running it is looking for a new place now.
But for the kind of music we do, the best programmation is probably l’Espace B.

tourMariette, in your opinion, what are the best shows we played as BCBG?
I would say the last show in Newcastle, Australia, cuz people would make all these funny gestures while dancing, they started making these beat box and screaming « hop hop » at the beginning of Devisage ahah, I laughed and could barely start singing. I really loved playing Chicago in a huge warehouse in the summer, everyone was sweating and the lights were dreamy. I loved playing in this festival in south of France, Baleapop, cause even the sound engineer of the festival was bouncing his head, bare chest and people on the front would trip as well, closing their eyes. I just love when people have their own moment with the music, and if they are making gestures, this means it gets in their head and it’s so rewarding for us.

And you mister Sam, what is the French dish you would recommend to Aussies?
Tartiflette for sure, with a glass of Bourgogne.

Mariette, what are the best bands right now in France?
I would say : Cheveu (legends!), The Feeling of Love (best psychedelic music), Rose Mercie, Moodoid (the backing band is an all girl band, it’s so great to watch them play), Mondkopf.

And you Sam ? Cause I know we don’t have the same tastes in music ahah
Now we have Nathan Roche and the Villejuif Underground who is taking over Paris. I like stuffs like Singer Feather Duster, Salopecia, Opale, Noir Boy George, Lafidki, Ventre De Biche, High Wolf.
