The next bank holiday weekend sees a very special two-day festival return to the city of Brighton & Hove on the UK’s south coast, as Hove Park is transformed into a magical musical shindig.

Day 1 – Saturday 28 May is “Funk the Family” with an emphasis on really high quality music for the adults paired with brilliant entertainment for all the family. The music is split between the main stage with live acts including Vula (Basement Jaxx’s leading lady), Atlantic Horns, the award winning hip hop artist Professor Elemental and British soul star Harleighblu.

DJ Format

The club Tropicana DJ bar features the legendary “Stick it on” crew where your little one can have a go at DJ’ing, the ultimate “Mature B-Boy” DJ Format (pictured, above), Brighton local busker Rowlf the Dog (pictured, below) and roots reggae and ska from The King Safari Love Music crew. On top of all this there is the family entertainment including, amongst many other things, Hartbeeps music workshops, the Soul Dome 360 degree Cinema and the cirque Du Funk Big Top.

Day 2 – Sunday 29 May is “Funk the Format”. The outdoor music stage features the legendary Soul II Soul (pictured, top), Norman Jay MBE and J-Felix, whilst the Club Tropicana Tent plays host to Robert Luis (pictured, below), Rodney P and Skitz, and Mr Bongo Soundsystem.

On both days there will also be sumptuous food and drink with some amazing local food stalls ranging from Indian to Mexican to Italian to English and several vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Add to this two fully licensed bars serving a selection of craft beers, cocktails, soft drinks and ciders.

The festival is also extremely affordable with Funk the Family tickets costing from £10-£22, Funk the Format £30 and a weekend ticket for £45. Personally I can’t wait to go with my family to Day 1 and then party hard on Day 2. This is the perfect festival for anyone with kids or who is young at heart.
