Getting to Know Montaigne

Montaigne interview

Here at Something You Said, we love Montaigne and are excited that she’s just released her new single, Because I Love You, taken from her debut album, Glorious Heights. We asked her to tell us more about herself:

I am a human being. I see the bad in all good things. I see traps bookend all strings. (Please don’t get to me.) I grew up pining for wings. I am averse to power and stings. I fall in love with bees and kings. I’m a parody. Legit was just going through my topline demos and listening to one titled “I Am A Human Being” and that just there is the first verse. I feel like it does the job.

“Because I Love You” is a pretty masturbatory song for me. It’s me masturbating my sufferings whilst in my former relationship, as I denied myself of it out of love while I was IN the relationship. But the song is all the same describing all the things that don’t sit well with me in retrospect as if I were still in the relationship and taking the “in love” point of view. There are some lines that hint at my hindsight knowledge.

My upcoming tour will be for my album, and hence will involve a lot of album songs being played. I’ll have a fancy fancy costume designed by Phoenix Keating and my band of almost two years now will be there. We will have a lot of fun and hopefully the audience in turn will too.

montaigneHome is where the heart is, dude. Seriously though. And if your heart is at peace with your self then wherever you go, you will be at “home”. A strong sense of self helps out with travelling, because you don’t seek the validation of external relationships in order to fill you with a sense of worth and personal comfort. Alas, the human’s sense of self falters at some time or another, especially at our most isolated, and moreover we kinda require human company from at least an evolutionary standpoint. So it’s difficult for people. But I’m generally at home where I have a welcoming room to sleep in, some substantial level of physical comfort, and at least one person in the city/town/area that I know. And good food.

I spend too much time checking the names of people liking my posts on social media.

I’m currently listening to DRELLER. The guy is a prodigy. I love his music.

It might surprise people to learn that I’m a massive Kingdom Hearts nerd? That’s either exceptionally surprising or not at all, because I’m very public about it, but if you’ve only been paying attention to the music and not everything else then you wouldn’t know. But yes. I’m a massive Kingdom Hearts freak.

In the future, I want to be playing massive venues and headlining huge festivals and be earning enough money to sustain myself and my family and also to fund projects that I believe will help this earth and the beings living on it and will be effective in that pursuit. I wanna start a vegan kitchen where one can eat and also learn how to cook cheap, delicious & easy vegan food. I want to donate money to all the things that I love that require sponsorship, like Lentil As Anything and crowdfunded podcasts and whatever I love that gives the community the goods and needs money. I’d pay for every show and event and anything that I ever went to that has a fee. I just want to be rich so that I can give my money away to people and projects that need it. And then I want to indulge in my art bloody heaps.
