Sugar Mountain Festival is back for 2017

In a climate where only the strongest festivals survive, Sugar Mountain has quietly and comfortably been growing into one of Australia’s most impressive indie festivals. The Melbourne only exclusivity keeps SM in a niche of its own, pandering to the musical forthright city of art and culture.

Each year, this one day extravaganza of contemporary music, art and new media takes place at the Victorian College of the Arts, in Southbank. Festival organiser once more have their fingers firmly on the pulse when it comes to the 2017 line-up.

Local legends Big Scary are ready for their homeground show after releasing their highly regarded third LP, Animal. Other well-hyped Aussie’s like Melbourne’s indie-pop Rolling Blackouts and Novocastrian Jack River, a multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer/songwriter. But what’s an indie festival without a fresh international draw-card? This year Blood Orange takes the biscuit as the most lauded line-up sign. He’s one of the most pushed by Pitchfork artists of the 2016 and rightly so!

With the full bill below, be sure to take note of who to see and don’t forget about the art and new media installations throughout the day.
