Black Bird Hum’s reggae selection

Just in time for the Australian Spring/Summer and the much-welcomed warmer weather, Black Bird Hum have dropped a reggae banger!

Down is sure to get your hips moving at one of the band’s many festival and live appearances over the next couple of months, which includes a support slot with Arrested Development in Sydney. You can see the full list of dates at the foot of the page.

To celebrate the release of their new tune, Black Bird Hum have put together a playlist of the five reggae songs that everyone should know and love, exclusively for Something You Said. Here we go…

Soon forward – Gregory Isaacs

It’s a Sly and Robbie track, with Isaacs floating over it.

Fisherman – the Congos

Amazing vocal harmonies and awesome visual imagery in the lyrics

Satta Masagana – the Abyssinians

This is almost the perfect reggae track for me. Heavy groove, one of the best horn lines ever, and killer vocals.

Life is contradiction – Joe Higgs

The version I have sounds like the tape is warped and the speakers are playing from in a closet, but the song is that good it doesn’t matter.

Slings and Arrows – Fat Freddy’s Drop

Not classic reggae by any stretch but everything about this song is perfect. Amazing horn parts the whole way through the track, all-time Freddy’s groove and amazing vocals and lyrics.
