The Great Escape Goes on Tour

The Great Escape is one of our favourite festivals on the circuit due to their unwavering support for new music, so we’re excited to learn that they will for the first time support the hottest up-n-coming artists as they tour across Europe. Throughout May, emerging Indiana-based band Durand Jones & The Indications will play in venues across Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and the UK. In each country the band will be supported by a local artist. All the artists will then play The Great Escape festival in Brighton 17-19 May.

The soulful quintet Durand Jones & The Indications is garnering praise for their smooth melodies and undertones that hark back to legends such as Otis Redding, James Brown and Charles Bradley.

In Denmark singer and songwriter Simone Tang will take audiences on an emotional journey of love and hope with her intimate songs, catchy melodies and effortless vocals. In Germany ELI has been wheedling his guitar since the age of ten, at thirteen he took up both drums and piano and has rocked these three instruments ever since. The pop-maker has already opened for the likes of Jake Bugg and Sabrina Carpenter and, at just nineteen, is about to release his first single.

In Amsterdam Day Fly will both support and perform at the infamous venue Paradiso. Boiler Room describes them as, ‘’soul lovingly linking arms with alternative hip-hop with a smidgen of sing-a-long pop shaken in.’’ In Belgium Chris & Charlie will support, mother and daughter Christiane and Charlotte Adigery, lovingly fuse mid-sixties Rhythm & Blues with Jamaican Soul and Rocksteady. And in Scotland self-described ‘shiny disco ball hat wearing, ultimate genre hopping, twisted festival, live stage machine’ Colonel Mustard & The Dijon5 will no doubt entertain their home crowds. Just watch out for the inflatable alligators.

Durand Jones & The Indications said “It’s an honour to be making our full-band European debut with the Great Escape tour and festival. The history of soul music can’t be told without mention of the unflagging support seen by artists like Otis Redding and Sam Cooke from audiences across the continent. We’re thrilled to take part in that tradition.”
