New Music: Rosie Catalano, Hearts
Australian songwriter Rosie Catalano’s newest ditty, Hearts, is a well constructed love-song with just the right amount of sleigh bells and vacant pauses that allow her vocals to ooze over the listener. In the track she is joined by vocalist Jack Carty, who turns a fairly delicate indie track into something that becomes a little grungier with some romantic call-and-response work between the pair.
If you were thinking that the track had a Little Birdy vibe to it, like me, there is actually a connection. Hearts follows the success of the track, Where Did I Go Wrong? that was picked up by the famous (circa 2006) Australian artist in a song competition. Gaining recognition in the music world and fans around Australia has led her to release her crowd-funded EP, Dreams Are Just Movies, that features Hearts, and is set for an October release. The EP features collaborations with Jack Carty, Brendan Maclean (Triple J, The Great Gatsby), Brian Campeau (The Rescue Ships), Evan Mannell (Bertie Blackman) and Veronique Serret (Joanna Newsom).
