Music: Phia – Do You Ever?
Here at somethingyousaid.com we’re loving all of the young female electronic artists popping-up at the moment. The newest act to join the likes of Elizabeth Rose in musical cohort is Phia, a Berlin based artist that made our ears prick up with her loopy, bouncing RnB tunes.
Do You Ever, reminds us of young love in the school yard, Phia manages to slip in the rhyme ‘rain rain go away come again another day’ around her beats. As a classically trained pianist, Phia opts for the kalimba, an African instrument, looping the unusual sounds from the wooden instrument into her music.
After re-locating to Europe, Phia has played over a hundred shows and supported the likes of Stealing Sheep, Denis Jones, Lights, Yukon Blonde, Husky and has even managed to secure a spot on the bill for Germany’s Fusion Festival.
What makes us like her even more, is this late night cover of Say My Name by Destiny’s Child that she features in with sometimes collaborator, Mez Medallion. It’s dark and we love the sped up tempo. Check it out the re-work here.
