Supanova Sydney – Photo Gallery
Supanova returned to Sydney recently. What’s that? Well, it’s a fan convention focusing on the weird and wonderful worlds of comic books, animation and cartoons, science fiction, pulp TV, movies, science fiction, fantasy and… you get the idea. It’s all about expressing your (not very well) hidden geek and where cosplay (costume roleplay) is where it’s at.
Adoring fans have been coming face-to-face with celebs – and jealously comparing costumes with each other – at the Pop Culture Expo since its inception in 2000. Guests this year included the legendary Stan Lee (Creator of Spiderman and pretty much the rest of the Marvel Universe), George Lazenby (the only Australian to ever play James Bond, born just outside of Canberra in Queanbeyan), Richard Kiel (played Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, also starred in Happy Gilmore), Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) and megababe Rose McGowan (Charmed, Jawbreaker, Planet Terror).
We sent photographer Philip Erbacher along to check out the madness. He told us: “It was an utterly bizarre experience. I had no idea cosplay was so all-consuming for some people.”
