Getting to Know Mammals – Interview
Dreamy Sydney act, Mammals, have recently unleashed their latest record, ‘Animalia’ into the world. The EP from the Northern Beaches outfit follows their gigs to sell out crowds with The 1975 and precedes their turn at Bigsound this September. We grabbed a few words with Guy Brown, the singer/songwriter behind Mammals, to find out more. Here he is, in his own words:
Mammals got together when I started writing a few songs that would be cool to do live. So I asked a bunch of friends and fellow musicians if they would be keen to get together and jam.
We sound like indiefolktronica. There are super stripped back acoustic moments all the way to heavy electronic based rock outs.
When making music, the best thing to have around for inspiration/motivation is coffee, beer, late nights and lack of sleep. A few memories of live gigs I’ve been to. And other bottled up emotions desperate to get out.
My favourite mammals are pugs. Always.
Have a listen to Mammals’ recent single, “Wolf”, below and if you like what you hear, you can grab the EP from which it is taken, from iTunes.
If you are heading to Bigsound in Brisbane in September, be sure to check out Mammals on 11th September at The Bright Side. Here are some other acts to watch at Bigsound too. You can also catch Mammal on Friday 12th September at the Beach Hotel, Byron Bay and Friday 26 September, at Goodgod Small Club in Sydney.
