Daddy Gadman – No Human/Mic Shy
Good things come to those who wait. Its been a year since Rongorock’s last release, the very catchy and critically-acclaimed Oyster Card by Mark Professor. In that time labelhead and producer Wrongtom has been busy DJing up and down the UK and at festivals and also recording the highly-anticipated Wrongtom meets the Ragga Twins album.
This time around, UK reggae veteran Daddy Gadman provides the fast-chat on this 7″ release. Back in the 80’s, Gad released a succession of sides for Jah Tubby’s Y&D label following which he hung up the mic until Mark Professor invited him to join the Wreck It Up Crew, where he now regularly rocks the set with his social commentary and wry sense of humour.
On No Human, Gad rides the Suzy rhythm (last heard on the Wrongtom meets Deemas J album) tackling human rights and bringing them down to street level. Mic Shy sees Gad chatting about dodgy mic set-ups and sketchy sound systems over the Oyster Card rhythm.
Quality not quantity is the name of the game for Rongorock and I’m pleased to say that this release does not disappoint. Get it now on 7″ record from Rongorock.
You can catch Daddy Gadman live with the Wreck It Up Crew at various venues, including their residency every first Saturday of the month at Strongrooms in East London.
