Premiere: Alex The Astronaut – Holes in the Story
We’re thrilled to kick-off the week by premiering the brand new single from Alex The Astronaut.
The NYC-based, Australia-born singer/songwriter’s sophomore release comes out this Friday, but she’s kindly allowed us to give you a sneak listen to it a few days early. It’s called ‘Holes in the Story’ and is a folktronic delight.
Recorded in Melbourne in January, ‘Holes in the Story’ tells of people breaking the mould, following the story of ‘the bad guy’ who smiles with his son, and a young couple who don’t fit the fairytale image we’re exposed to all too often. It was recorded with and produced by Benjamin McCarthy (Gordi, Kate Miller-Heidke) and is the follow up to her acclaimed debut track, ‘Half of 21st Street’. Give it a listen!
We introduced you to Alex earlier in the year, and learned that she isn’t your everyday musician. She’s in the process of playing football (soccer) on scholarship for Long Island University Post while studying maths and physics and is “most interested in research involved with relativity and Einstein’s impact on modern physics.”
You can read the full interview with your new favourite physics-loving, football-playing storyteller here and keep up to date with her on Facebook.
If you are based in Sydney then you’ll be excited to know that Alex the Astronaut is back in the country for a while and is set to play her first ever Australian gig at Oxford Art Factory on Saturday June 11, with Brisbane’s Project Montreal. Put that date in your diary!
