Super Furry Animals are hitting the road
One of the all-time greatest Welsh bands… in fact, scrap that… one of the all-time greatest bands full-stop… is hitting the road to rattle through their first two albums, back-to-back. Having spent our youths crowd-surfing at SFA gigs around the South of England, we can’t wait to see them belt out these seminal tunes. Oh, and if you are wondering if the five-piece have still got it after all these years, then their performance at Caught By The River Thames Festival in August answers with an emphatic “yes” (read our review here)
Having just reissued their brilliantly bonkers debut, Fuzzy Logic and also having dropped a rarity-laden ZOOM, Best of… Super Furry Animals are playing at venues across the UK from the end of the month, including two dates at London’s Roundhouse and a show at the Brighton Dome (tickets for that one are selling fast, btw, get yours now). The full list of gigs is at the foot of this page.
The record collectors amongst you should head over to the merch desk when you go to see them. You’ll be able to pick up a high definition, heavyweight vinyl copy of Fuzzy Logic, re-mastered from the original tape reels, including Something 4 The Weekend and If You Don’t Want Me to Destroy You. A bonus disc of essential tracks, titled Lost On The Bypass Road also emerges from the deep well of the Furries archive to accompany the release. The record is also available on CD and digital releases, if that’s your kind of thing.
Enlisting the help of Furries official archivist, Kliph Scurlock and mastering expert, Donal Whelan, the recordings have been meticulously ‘sonically rediscovered’. Amongst the last of the high-profile, truly analogue, albums to be produced in a pre-Pro Tools age, Fuzzy Logic has been re-mastered to clearly capture the straight-to-tape ethos of their sessions at the legendary Rockfield Studios.
Laboratory conditions have been maintained for the development of a new CD and digital release, ZOOM! The Best of Super Furry Animals, 1995 – 2016, taking the highs of their chart-climbing singles and adding the promise of yet further, elevated experiences through selected album tracks, personal band favourites, B-sides and those that somehow strayed out of collective memory, only to be recently rediscovered.
