Getting to Know Citizen Kay

Canberra rapper Citizen Kay has just dropped his new LP, Belly of the Beast, and is about to head out on a national tour. We asked him to tell us about himself:

I am unable to contain myself when SUPERFREAK by Rick James is bumpin! OR ACTUALLY MICHAEL JACKSON’S “THRILLER”!! WHHAAAAT A JAM THAT IS!!!! Aaannnd as I’m writing this “Ignition Remix” by R Kelly comes on… DAYUM!!! Im gonna move to the next question before another banger comes on

My new album is, to be honest, more for myself than for anyone else. I guess its pretty much the same as keeping a journal. A point of reference of where I was/am in life around the time I was writing. Buuuuuut as soon as it went out to the world I guess was no longer completely the case. Hopefully people take the time out to really listen to and vibe with every song and if they don’t that’s cool too. Do you?

My upcoming live shows will be deliciously energetic (assuming I’ve gotten adequate sleep).

I spend too much time thinking about the end of the day when I get to slliiide into bed. For real. Sometimes I purposely try over-work myself cause the more tired you are, the more tantalising the idea of being in bed is and the more satisfying it is when you actually finally get into bed. I also probably spend too much time planning ‘what’s next’. I’m not really much of a ‘dwell in the present for too long’ kinda person. Tick off a goal and onto the next!

I’ve never tried escargot (fancy word for snails). When I went back to the motherland, Ghana, my auntie tried to get me onto snails. I dunno. I just don’t see the appeal, y’know. I mean… if you’re all about it then do you, I guess. If Justin Bieber has taught me anything though its that ‘never say never’. Maybe next time i do these questions I’d have tried them.

Home is where the heart is. HAHA NA jks jks. Home is either Canberra or Ghana ooorrr both? Am I allowed to have two homes?

It might surprise people to learn that the funny bone isn’t actually a bone. Its the ulner nerve which runs from the neck to the hand… I didn’t actually know this till just then, the internet is a wonderful place, isn’t it?

In the future life will be just like it is in MEN IN BLACK, Aliens everywhere……. orrrr is life already like that and we just don’t know? Life’s crazy. One time I thought i saw a UFO while playing golf. I’m sure there was a ‘logical’ explanation but what’s the fun in that?
