Getting to know Siv Jakobsen

Siv Jakobsen’s album ‘The Nordic Mellow’ has been nominated for ‘Best International Record’ at this year’s Unsigned Music Awards, the ceremony for which will open The Great Escape on 16th May. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… a maker and performer of songs.

“The Nordic Mellow” is… my debut album of said songs.

Home is… Oslo, Norway. Or wherever I feel home is at any given moment.

I spend too much time… on my phone.

My gig at St Pancras Old Church in London will be… absolutely wonderful. I’ve got a string quartet and pianist especially for the occasion, so it’ll be a very beautiful, one off concert.

I’ve never… been signed to a label. (I’ve made my own label, which I release all my own music on.)

It might surprise people to learn that… for one summer a few years ago I was a cleaner on a “cruise ship” that went back and forth from Kiel in Germany to Oslo in Norway.

Siv’s new album ‘Live In Oslo’ is out on 27th April. Recorded in front of a sold-out crowd in her home city, the album brings together songs from Siv’s debut EP, ’The Nordic Mellow’ and some cover tracks, all played with the backing of a live string quartet. 2 already released live tracks are available as follows.
