Our top ten tunes of the week – October 4
Here are the songs that have been getting us going over the past few days:
1. Erthlings – Tranz
Break-out Sydney band Erthlings have dropped their new video for debut single ‘Bridges’, which is directed by revered Australian photographer and friend of Something You Said, Cybele Malinowski. The music video is marked by many firsts, the first music video by Erthlings and the directorial debut for Cybele.
2. Chloe Howl – Work
Chloe Howl is back! “I wrote this after watching so many of my incredible friends deal with substandard romances,” she explains. “It’s kind of a reminder to myself and hopefully others that we don’t owe anybody our time or attention – they have to work for it. I hope people listen to it, feel like they’re the shit and leave that loser on read.”
3. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – Sister’s Jeans
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have released the video they made after winning the coveted Levi’s Music Prize in May this year for their track ‘Sisters Jeans’, from their critically acclaimed record Hope Downs. The band also kick off their biggest headline tour yet this week, with tickets still available in some markets.
4. Methyl Ethel – Scream Whole
‘Scream Whole’ is a nimble art-rock cut and the first new music from the Perth band since their acclaimed 2017 album Everything Is Forgotten.
5. The Breeders – Spacewoman
Richard Ayoade, the BAFTA-nominated film director (Submarine, The Double), actor (IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace), TV presenter (Travel Man, The Crystal Maze) and comedian, has teamed up with his favourite band to create an eerie short story for their latest single.
6. Ames – Hold On
The songwriter for pop stars like Tori Kelly and Rita Ora comes from a conservative Christian family, missionaries who moved to Honduras when Ames was just 13. Coming to terms with her sexual identity was difficult for her in that environment. Hold On deals with that.
7. Hellogoodbye – Close
California’s Hellogoodbye have revealed the steamy video for the most recent track to be taken from their forthcoming new album S’Only Natural.
8. Crocodylus – My Baby
In an ode to old love, Crocodylus bring the romance in their new clip.
9. Mihra – Underwater
This is the second taste of their sophomore album, ‘Girl and Her Symbols’, being released on November 2nd.
10. The Desert – Gone
The Bristol based four-piece have returned with the mood-stricken single ‘Gone’, lifted from their forthcoming new EP.
