Our top ten tunes of the week – November 30
Here are the songs that have been lighting our fireworks over the past few days:
1. Grimes – We Appreciate Power
Inspired by the North Korean band, Moranbong, ‘We Appreciate Power’ is written from the perspective of a Pro – A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence and features the excellent Hana.
2. Julia Jacklin – Head Alone
Filmed in the streets of Melbourne in the last hour of light, Julia said she wanted to keep the clip really simple as the song’s content was very important to her. She wanted to act the way the song makes her feel. Empowered and hopeful.
3. Shame – Dust on Trial
We love love love Shame! Here’s the opening track from their stunning debut album, Songs of Praise. If you don’t own a copy of the LP, then you need to fix that situation forthwith.
4. White Lies – Believe It
Ahead of their imminent album Five, released on February 01 through [PIAS] Recordings, White Lies have shared the video for their new track.
5. Cosmo’s Midnight – Lowkey
Directed by Sejon Im, the music video provides an insight into the relationship between twin brothers Cosmo & Patrick, focusing on the different sides of their personalities and interests.
6. Julia Holter – Whether
Ahead of her upcoming Australian live dates, Julia has dropped the video for ‘Whether’.
7. Gabrielle Aplin – My Mistake
This is the first song to be taken from Gabrielle’s forthcoming third album, due for release next year.
8. Kristina Bazan – VR
The 24-year-old is an artist, author, model, singer and composer from Switzerland. After a successful career in fashion with her Kayture blog and channels, she is now dedicating herself to her music. Check her out.
9. Atalein – Lo Drone
Here’s the latest tune from Atalein. It’s her second release and follows on from her first single ‘Autumn / Winter’.
10. Little Person – I’m Happy to Be With You
Check this one out from Max and Nicky Weinbach, otherwise known as Little Person.
