Our top ten tunes of the week – January 11
Here are the songs that have got our new year off to a brilliant start:
1. Stella Donnelly – Old Man
One of our absolute faves, Stella Donnelly is back with a new single, taken from her upcoming album, Beware of the Dogs. She says of the track: “I came up with the chords and chorus to this song in 2017 around the time when Woody Allen called the #metoo movement a witch hunt. It was a very strange feeling for me watching the world change right before my eyes and to see that these men who had exploited their power for so long were actually being held accountable for their actions.”
Stella will tour Aus, Europe and the US over the next few months.
2. Sharon Van Etten – Seventeen
The release of Remind Me Tomorrow, SVE’s first new album in almost five years, is imminent. Leading into its January 18th release, she has dropped the album’s next official single, ‘Seventeen’, and an accompanying video directed by Maureen Towey. Yes!
3. The Chemical Brothers – MAH
The Chemical Brothers have unleashed their first banger of 2019, complete with a brand new visual filmed at the band’s recent sold-out London arena shows.
4. Rat Boy – Don’t Hesitate
“We listened to some old funk records then we went into the live room and tried making our own and I was playing bongos on it at the start,” recalls Rat Boy.
5. Janelle Monae – Screwed
Check out this new one, which features none other than Zoë Kravitz.
6. Steve Gunn – Vagabond
Following the release of singles ‘New Moon’ and ‘Stonehurst Cowboy’, Steve Gunn today shares a third song off The Unseen In Between, out next week.

The duo have kicked off 2019 with a brand-new video for the contemplative track from their acclaimed album ‘Acts of Fear and Love’.
