Getting to know The Dardi Shades
New South Wales-based indie-rock band The Dardi Shades have just unveiled their new single. We asked them to tell us about themselves:
We are… The Dardi Shades. A 5-piece Indie-Rock band made up of Stu, Logan, Kabir, Mikey and Leon. We sound like a cocktail of our mid-noughties inspirations; The Kooks/Courtneeners/Killers/Strokes, landing somewhere in the middle. The music sways between high-energy indie rock, to swooning and crooning ballads that feel effervescent as the do familiar.
Home is… Camden, South-West Sydney. ‘Birthplace of our nations wealth’ and also of our local mates, The Rubens. It’s a wonderful place to live and have grown-up. 4/5 band mates actually live in the same estate. Somehow still always late to rehearsal though. Last year we supported The Rubens for their hometown album launch. The community came out in droves and it was an awesome showcase of local music.
Yeah You’re Young is… a high-energy, chorus-heavy indie rock statement that explores a self-reflective thirst for life’s offerings amidst a dwindling social landscape of wasted youth. I’d like to think if there was ever a ‘Friends’ remake that this track could get a start as the theme-song. “Yeah You’re Young” … but not going to be forever, so quit whinging and wasting is essentially the gist of it all.
Our best Live Experience was… this year. In February we played the Main-stage at Secret Garden festival on what was a stacked line up. This was so special for us as SG is our hometown festival and we all were frequent attendee’s in the years since its inception. It was a longstanding dream to get the chance to play and we were so fortunate as this year’s festival eventually proved to be the last one ever! CRY EVERYTIME.
It might surprise people to learn… The Dardi Shades was not the original name for the band! The working title was Dardi Lass, not really sure how it became so but here we are, and with our marginally less shit name. Also, Yeah You’re Young took so long to record & release because we couldn’t find a producer. We were aiming high as we wanted someone who could help steer the project to the next level and we managed to convince (bribe/seduce) Adrian Breakspear (Aria Best Producer 2017 / Gang Of Youths) who has done a truly wonderful job and who we can’t wait to work with further. It will have been 12 months between new music for us so just hoping it’s been worth the wait.
