Getting to know Ryan Edmond
Australia-born, Sweden-based indie-roots artist Ryan Edmond has recently released his debut single. We asked him to tell us about himself:
I am… a singer-songwriter from Rockingham in Perth, Western Australia. I spent a lot of my time growing up surfing, skating and hanging out with mates. From a young age I was taught the cornet from my Grandad and he really inspired me to be around music. Over the past few years I have really been focusing on singing and songwriting and I just released my debut single!
From The Start is… my debut single, and it is about life, friendships and relationships slipping away over time. It’s serves as a reminder to find the time to maintain those relationships and be careful not to lose yourself in this fast-paced world of too much work and not enough living.
Home is… currently Gothenburg, Sweden. Although I have been living between Sweden and Australia over the past 4 years. Some people might find it stressful to live in two different places, but I love it, it feels like the perfect balance for me. I get the best out of two worlds. From the oceans in Australia and waking up every morning going straight to surf, to the intense green Swedish summers with midnight sun. For me, the hardest part is the long winters here in Sweden. Sun goes up at around 9am and sets again at 3pm, so that’s usually when I pack my bags and head over to the Aussie summer.
I spend too much time… on Netflix. When I lived in a share house in Fremantle, we had one house rule which was that we weren’t allowed a TV! Instead we talked, went to the local music venue Mojos or just chilled. Now I find it so easy after a long day to get stuck into a solid session of too much Netflix.
I’ve never… EVER been on live TV. That is a quote from the funniest YouTube video! But it is also true, so I’ll run with that!
It might surprise people to learn that… my girlfriend and I are the owners of the sustainable clothing company True Threads. We sell organic clothing, socks and reusable straws. Living organic has always been important for me. When my girlfriend and I started researching the clothing industry what we read both frightened and motivated us. Did you for example know that it takes up to 2700 litres of water to make one t-shirt? That’s enough for one person to drink for 900 days! Pretty scary. 95% of the water used for our organic t-shirts come from the monsoon rainfall and has a 90% reduction on the carbon footprint. This is worth sharing!
