Interview: Getting to know Xavia

Alice Springs-based live-looper/cellist/songstress, Xavia, recently released her new single, Rain Falls. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… based in the middle of the desert in Central Australia, live-looping cello and all sorts into dreamy electronic-folk. I’m also in the middle of mentoring the Desert Divas, writing songs with young indigenous women and girls.

Rain Falls is… singing joyful desert storms after months of endless sunshine- a feeling that’s hard to describe, hitting hard, requiring big strings and beats. Buried is a reflection on how humans face processes of renewal and deep awe at the desert landscape in transformation. It pairs with my debut single ‘Horizons’ that has taken desert mountain views worldwide with some epic Spotify playlist love.

Home is… My man. My tribe. And music. I don’t really feel myself when I’m away on tour, solo, or if I have to take an extended break from work.

I’ve never… watched Game of Thrones. There, I said it.

I spend too much time… worrying about every. single. thing. Paralysis of indecision.

It might surprise people to learn that… I went to art school. I also have teaching qualifications that I don’t use and an Estonian passport.

In the future… the people will come good, the earth might just forgive us, and there will be an endless supply of mangoes and tea.

Keep up to date with Xavia on Facebook.
