Interview: Getting to know FANGZ

Sydney-based melodic-punk group, FANGZ, have just unveiled their new single. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… FANGZ, four best mates who enjoy sitting in a Mazda CX5 for 20 hours, to pour beer on ourselves in front of people, and occasionally play punk rock.

Drifter is… the second single off our soon to be released second EP, ‘But No Thanks’. Drifter is about making the realisation that your value doesn’t decrease based on someone else’s inability to see your worth. It’s about dealing with depression and anxiety as a result of your surroundings and making a change for the better. Being a drifter doesn’t mean you’re running away from your problems, sometimes it means going it alone and finding a better state of being.

Home is… the small venues in Sydney that we have frequented, that look after us when we’re playing or just socialising. If I’m going to be specific, Crowbar, Hideaway, Jacoby’s Tiki Bar, Frankies Pizza by The Slice, Fortunate Son, The Vanguard and The Warren View Hotel are all great places to start.

We (Jameel and myself) spend too much time… debating whether the next show is a ‘Noble Green’, ‘Classic Black’, ‘Raucous Red’ or ‘Self Destructive Blue’ Adidas Tracksuit kinda show.

I’ve never… thought that our touring schedule, all aspects of Australia’s Music Industry, everyone’s ability to cross borders, and the entire Global economy could be so severely influenced by a guy eating a bat.

It might be a surprise to people that… we played our first show a year ago almost to the day, and here we are now in quarantine.

Keep up to date with the band on Facebook.
