Our top ten tunes of the week – May 7

These are the ten songs that have been lighting our fireworks over the past seven days:

1. whenyoung – The Prayer

“We wanted to create something meditative to soothe the anxiety and fear we are feeling” the band explain. “It’s a song about our immediate reactions to being quarantined, imagining the pain of others and our own being unable to see loved ones. To coincide with the release of The Prayer we will be raising money for Women’s Aid Ireland and U.K. with the sale of a limited-edition t-shirt and other events on our social media.”

2. Gordi – Volcanic

This new single is taken from Gordi’s forthcoming album, Our Two Skins, which is due for release on June 26th.

3. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – Falling Thunder

This new track from the Melbourne-based band is lifted from their highly-anticipated second album, Sideways to New Italy, out Friday 5th June on Ivy League Records.

4. AJ Tracey – Dinner Guest

This video comes with news that the highly-anticipated Australia tour has been rescheduled for January 2021. All original tickets remain valid.

5. Mindchatter – Scared To Go Home

“The track is quite different from what’s out and it’s more in the hip-hop/pop lane than I ever imagined myself in, but it’s exciting for me to be in uncharted territory,” Mindchatter says.

6. JessB – Pon It

The single is the first taste of the Auckland based artist’s forthcoming debut mixtape, set for release on July 31st.

7. Kota – Downpour

“The song, written a year ago, is about how people’s lives are often at the mercy of factors beyond their control, with lines such as “society diseased, society afraid” relevant to the current state of the world,” the band tell us.

8. Runaway Belles – The Weekend

Runaway Belles will be live streaming every Monday evening throughout May via Facebook.

9. Joey Vriend – Hollow

Joey is a songwriter from The Netherlands, and this is the first single taken from his upcoming album, due for release later this year.
