Getting to know The Phazes

Sydney-based indie-rock band The Phazes have recently dropped their latest single ‘Hollywood’. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… The Phazes. A five-piece Alt-Indie Band from Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Hollywood is… an ode to aspiring artists in 2020. The opening line “woke up on a street 10 miles away, from Hollywood/ I’m so close to the race, but what I taste really ain’t good,” – is an affirmation that while we as a band are close to being where we want to be, put simply – we just aren’t.

Home is… Manly and its surrounding suburbs. Generally, wherever the beers are cold or on a stage playing in front of our die-hard fan base of 6 strong.

We spend too much time… worrying about pointless shit.

I’ve never… seen a Star Wars movie. It’s not that I’ve actively set out to avoid them but in the same breath I haven’t exactly gone looking for them either. It’s fair to say I’ll probably go my entire life without knowing who kills Darth Skywalker.

It might surprise people to know that… our guitarist Liam and drummer Jesse came to meet each other at Falls Festival 2016 after Liam recognised Jesse from a sponsored Facebook post from his previous band. By chance the two had managed to camp right next to each other and got talking once Jesse started playing The Strokes over his loudspeakers. Despite the two boys residing on the opposite sides of Sydney, a love blossomed from the very first night and I guess it’s fair to say the rest is history.
