Our top ten tunes of the week – June 10
These are the ten songs that have been getting us going over the past seven days:
1. Eves Karydas – Complicated
This ace new track from the Brisbane-based singer-songwriter was written as part of an extended writing trip around the world in 2019, with the accompanying visual directed by Mick Soiza.
2. Travis – A Ghost
Travis are back with a new tune and animated video, directed and drawn by Fran, with his son Clay leading the cinematography work – all done whilst in isolation. The song is taken from the band’s forthcoming ninth studio album ‘10 Songs’ – out October 9th.
3. Gordi – Unready
A couple of weeks away from the release of her sophomore album, Our Two Skins, Gordi has shared a new single.
4. OTHER HALF – Trance State
In support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the band have turned stills from the original ‘Trance State’ video footage into packs of limited edition art prints. 100% of proceeds will be split between The Black Curriculum and the Black Immigrant Collective.
5. Mae Krell – Home
The New York artist’s new single is about the moment when everything begins to matter, and the fear that follows that realisation.
6. Attaboi x Emma Volard – Petrichor
Jazz-kid turned producer Jake Amy (Attaboi) collaborates with rising star vocalist Emma Volard to marry 80’s-style synth drums, house beats and nu-jazz, forging their own unique brand of electronic dance music.
7. RINSE – Trust In Me
Having struggled morally with releasing a single at this time, RINSE (aka Brisbane’s Joe Agius) has decided to donate all revenue from the single to two charities and organisations Free Her, a bail fund for Aboriginal Woman in Western Australia, Black Rainbows, which supports LGBQTI people in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
8. Hattie Oates – High
“I wrote this song about that feeling you get when you have a new little crush and no matter how hard you try to ignore it, you can’t help the tingling butterflies in your belly,” Hattie explains.
9. Samantha Crain – Pastime
Check the latest track to be taken from Samantha’s new record, A Small Death, released on the 17th July via Lucy Rose’s newly formed independent record label, Real Kind Records.
10. Oly Sherman – Homeboy
As with the rest of the music industry, Sherman’s tour plans were foiled by the COVID19 pandemic, however once restrictions allow, he looks forward to announcing his 40+ date national tour.
