Our top ten tunes of the week – October 7
These are the songs that have been getting us going over the past seven days:
1. G Flip – You & I
This new single from Georgia Flipo is a sentimental ode to her past relationship. She explains, “You & I is a LGBTQIA+ love anthem. It’s about being able to look at someone and the whole world just becomes background noise to your epic love story and it feels like it’s only you and that other person standing on the planet.”
2. Romy – Lifetime
This is the debut solo release from Romy Madley-Croft of the xx. It is about the dream of being reunited with friends, family and the ones we love, capturing the euphoria of being together again.
3. Mallrat – Rockstar
22 year old Brisbane-native Grace Shaw returns today with new single, written and recorded in her part-time home of Los Angeles. It’s a collaboration with songwriter/producer Tommy English (Kacey Musgraves, Carly Rae Jepsen).
4. Angie McMahon – Born to Die (Live at The Perch)
This brilliant cover of Lana Del Rey’s song features on Angie’s new EP, Piano Salt.
5. Boy Destroy – Warpaint
This is the first release and title-track from the Swedish artist’s forthcoming EP of the same name.
6. Bastille – survivin’
This clip is directed by London-based British/Iranian director, Reza Dolatabadi. The collaboration follows the video for their song, “WHAT YOU GONNA DO???,” which marked a seismic visual shift for the band.
7. Jorja Smith – Come Over
This single is inspired by, “that unsure feeling when you’re talking to someone and you can’t tell how much they’re into you and you’re chasing them when – really – it can be straight up and no one should be playing games,” says Smith.
8. Jordan Dennis – Hokus Pokus
Made in collaboration with Beats, the animated video was brought to life by LA-based production company, StrangelooopStudios, who are responsible for live visuals behind acts including Flying Lotus, SZA, Kendrick Lamar and Anderson.Paak
9. Crosstown Killers – IOU
This single is the first offering from the Central Coast based Psych Rockers’ forthcoming EP, set for release late 2020.
10. Sonny Winnebago – Lemonade
Drawing inspiration from 1970s influences including Harry Nilsson and Cat Stevens, Sonny Winnebago is the stage name of Welsh-Australian pop troubadour Harvey Jones.
