Getting to know Majak Door
Melbourne-based band Majak Door have just revealed their new single. We asked them to tell us about themselves:
We are… Majak Door! A five to six-piece (depending on whether or not our ex-bass player wants to play percussion) Indie/Surf/Psych band from the greatest Urban Metropolis, Melbourne. Although our hometowns are spread between Northern NSW and South Coast VIC. And yes, the name is influenced from the great ‘Majak Daw’.
‘Will She Leave You’ is… a song about being strung along throughout a relationship and not knowing what to do or how to approach it. Coupled with feelings of paranoia, anxiety and uncertainty through these lockdowns in Melbourne. The song can feel sombre at points but finds itself steering into uplifting and empowered moments during the chorus’.
Home is… Flemington, Melbourne. We have a band house where we practice and record at, as we are all keen (amateur) audio engineers. The guys who don’t live at the house have their own mattresses stashed away in the shed for post gig sleepovers. It’s an old decrepit place with a few leaks but that’s part of its beauty and character. Most days away from music are spent juggling the soccer ball out the front or trying to Bonzai native Australian plants.
We spend too much time… in the van before shows discussing hypotheticals and wondering why the van is so messy. We also spend too much time at band practice playing handball. We have a perfect 5 square concrete slab out the back of the rehearsal space, everyone seems to migrate over there after about 5 songs. We are all wannabe sporty types.
We’ve never… played outside of NSW and VIC, we had huge plans for touring a lot of Australia through 2020 but obviously with COVID lying dormant these plans fell through. We get a lot of people asking us when we are playing the likes of Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin. Hopefully fingers crossed we can make it happen in 2021.
It might surprise people to learn that… we haven’t even played a show with our current line-up. We were just about to finalise our live set then COVID hit. Big things install for when we get back on stage! ‘Will She Leave You’ was also recorded between multiple houses, sending single audio stems back and forth over the internet for mixing and tracking purposes.
