Our top ten tunes of the week – April 8

These are the songs that have been on heavy rotation in our office over the past seven days:

1. Sappho – Flex

The moniker Sappho is of great significance to Phoebe Baker (the voice of Alpine). When she was born, her parents were torn between naming her Phoebe or Sappho, they opted for the former and so it makes sense that Baker’s first solo endeavour bears the name that could have been.

2. POND – Pink Lunettes

“I think we managed to jitter along the neon tightrope between totally unhinged, strobing spontaneity and focused forward momentum,” says frontman Nick Allbrook of the new track.

3. Isabel Wood – ross n rachel

The Queensland artist is playing a single launch show at Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on April 11th , alongside special guests Oh Bailey and Forrest Run. Tickets are available now through Eventbrite.com.au.

4. Teenage Joans – Ice Cream

The Adelaide band will take their live show around Australia, on tour with The Chats in April and then Bugs in May, before releasing their debut EP Taste of Me on 28 May.

5. Billie Marten – Creature of Mine

This new track is taken from Billie’s upcoming third album Flora Fauna – out May 21st on new label home Fiction Records.

6. Noha Saré – Lost

This new track from the Amsterdam-based alt-pop/soul artist is taken from her debut EP, due later this year.

7. Holly Humberstone – Haunted House

This new tune from the emerging UK star explores themes of home, family and displacement, with the video an ode to saying goodbye to the haunted, countryside childhood home that she grew up in and where much of her artistry has come to life.

8. Amberlake – Arms Around Me

This is the new project from guitarist and producer Nick Tsang, who has toured the world playing guitar for acts such as Ed Sheeran, The Ting Tings and Charlie XCX.

9. Butch – Testarossa

Butch lives in Germany, but he’s originally Turkish. After numerous releases on such labels as BMG, Parlophone, and XL, his new single comes out on Saudi label MDLBEAST Records, where his roots are.

10. LT – Hold Ya

The 3x Queensland Music Award winner has dropped a new single. Give it a listen.
